Distinguished guests in the International Security and Development MA programme!
‘’Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development: Theories and Practice” (link: https://isad.uj.edu.pl/en_GB/-post-conflict) is a course of International Development specialisation that gives our students an unprecedented opportunity to meet practitioners in the area of post-conflict reconstruction and development (PCRD), including human rights, rule of law and anti-corruption experts from the peace missions and international agencies. The course is led by Lidia Powirska (link: https://isad.uj.edu.pl/en_GB/lidia-powirska) – a former member of the OSCE and UN missions in Kosovo, East Timor and Ukraine.
The main purpose of the ‘’Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development: Theories and Practice” course is to provide students with basic understanding of the PCRD activities. For this purpose, at the beginning of the course, basic theoretical concepts are discussed, along with particular programmes, such as Security Sector Reform (SSR), Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR), Women, Peace and Security (WPS) and Youth, Peace and Security (YPS). During the second part of the course, the students are exploring practical dimensions of implementation of these programmes in specific countries. This year (2020/2021) WPS in Timor-Leste, judicial reform in Kosovo and maritime security in Somalia were discussed.
The students, after the presentation of the outcomes of their research on East Timor, Kosovo and Somalia, had a rare opportunity to ask questions and learn more about PCRD framework of these activities from the practitioners: the UN Women Timor-Leste expert on WPS, the Chief of the Case Monitoring Unit of the EU Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX) and Mr. Christopher Reynolds, head of the EU civilian mission in Somalia (EUCAP Somalia), who was accompanied by Noel Dwan - the mission’s Coast Guard expert.
We cordially invite all candidates to enroll in to the MA in International Security and Development Programme to see that for themselves: https://isad.uj.edu.pl/.
