IRAS Graduation Ceremony 2021

IRAS students each year amaze their professors with the highest level of their undergraduate dissertations - and the year 2021 was no exception. The presented and defended projects turned out to be extremely interesting, were based on the latest literature and ambitious own research, which will inevitably contribute to the development of the discipline. In this context, it was a genuine pride and joy with which the department authorities presented 30 young scholars with their well-deserved graduation diplomas.IRAS 2021 graduation ceremony

The official graduation ceremony took place on July 5th in the new faculty building. Among the participants were 30 students from all over the world and the department officials, represented by: dr hab. Dorota Pietrzyk-Reeves, prof. UJ (Vice-Dean for Research and International Cooperation), dr Dominika Dziwisz (Director of the IRAS programme), prof. Artur Gruszczak and prof. Małgorzata Zachara-Szymańska (thesis supervisors). In her speech, addressed to the graduates, professor Dorota Pietrzyk-Reeves congratulated them on their great achievement. In her opinion the biggest strength of the IRAS programme is its cultural diversity and teamwork, therefore the graduates are perfectly prepared to meet new challenges. You have learned crucial skills that will help you deal with some of the most pressing issues of the current times and the future: social injustice, all sorts of inequalities, or security problems – added Dr. Dominika Dziwisz. And you are not expected to do that alone. By working together, you become an unbeatable team.

The people gathered at the ceremony were touched not only by the fact that they received their diplomas, but also by the chance to meet after the long months of the lockdown. As they admitted, the last year was quite a challenge, but the help and support of the university authorities helped them turn all difficulties into final success. Ending her speech, Dr. Dominika Dziwisz wished the graduates further academic and professional success, as well as the courage to reach for ambitious goals. I hope that Jagiellonian University will have a special place in your hearts and will remain a place where you want to come back to after graduation; often in your memory and sometimes in person. You are always welcome here - she added.
