„China and Europe at the Edge of Chaos? Trends, Frameworks, Challenges” – CISAD workshop

The Covid-19 pandemic has worsen the relations between China and Europe, which had been getting tense ever since the European commission labeled Beijing as a "systemic rival" in 2018. The ongoing war in Ukraine and the divergent responses to Russia's aggression; intensifying global confrontation between the US and China; worsening environmental degradation; growing energy, logistical, and economic crises, and the strengthening of authoritarian politics around the world have only deepened the rift between the EU and China.

This workshop aims to discuss the future "strategic partnership" between the EU and China in the context of such global flux divided into three main themes:

• A clash of connectivities - the EU's Global Gateway and China's Belt and Road Initiative
• EU, China and the future of life in the Anthropocene.
• The future of the "One China" policy in Europe - Taiwan and the future of Sino-European relations.
