"India. Emerging Power and the New International Order in Asia" – our account of a seminar with guests from India, Oxford ant the University of Warsaw

On 13th May 2016, a seminar took place at the Jagiellonian University, entitled "India. Emerging Power and the New International Order in Asia". Among numerous guests were academics from India, Oxford and the University of Warsaw. The event was co-organized by the Polish Society of International Studies, the Institute of Political Science and International Relations of the Jagiellonian University, the Institute of International Relations of the University of Warsaw and the Asian section of the International Relations Student Research Club.

Before the seminar, Professor Andrzej Mania, Vice-Rector of the Jagiellonian University received the guests in Collegium Novum. Among them were representatives of leading universities in India, scholars from the Oxford University and from the University of Warsaw: Professor Shantanu Chakrabarti (the University of Calcutta), Professor Arvind Kumar (Manipal University), Professor Gulschan Sachdeva (Jawaharlal Nehru University), Professor Matthew Mc Cartney and Professor George Kunnath from Oxford University and Professor Jakub Zajączkowski (Institute of International Relations of the University of Warsaw). Doctor Marcin Grabowski from the Jagiellonian University Institute of Political Studies and International Relations also took part in the meeting.  

Among the subjects covered in the conversation were plans of mutual co-operation, especially in the field of international and intercultural relations. Professor Andrzej Mania showed the guests around Collegium Novum and acquainted them with the most important facts and people in the history of the University. After the visit to Collegium Novum, the guests visited the Museum in Collegium Maius.

The seminar was devoted to India's role as a new Asian power from the social, political and economic perspectives. Apart from the above mentioned, another renowned guest who took part in the seminar was Professor Agnieszka Kuczkiewicz-Fraś (from the Institute of Middle and Far East at the Jagiellonian University). The seminar was presided over by Doctor Marcin Grabowski.
