It is with great pleasure that we announce that Professor Janusz Węc has been awarded a Jean Monnet Chair by the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency. The project to be realized by the Chair is European Union in Crisis - What Is Wrong and How to Fix It? (EUCRIS).

The project was very well received by a team of international experts and scored 96 out of 100 points. It is noteworthy that only one out of five applications for this year’s Jean Monnet Chair edition were accepted to be considered, and three of them were submitted by Polish academics.

The Jean Monnet Programme is directed at universities from EU member states and other countries interested in developing new educational programmes and academic research focused on European integration. The programme supports experts with rich didactic and academic experience in the field. The realization of the project will contribute to the position of the Jagiellonian University in the international network of Jean Monnet Chair Holders.

Professor Janusz Węc is a professor of modern international history and international relations and Head of the Chair of Studies on Integration Processes within the Institute of Political Science and International Relations at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków. 

Professor Węc is an expert in the European Commission Representation in Poland, member of the Team Europe, and expert in the Kościuszko Institute, member of the Historical Commission of the Kraków Branch of the Polish Academy of Sciences and member of a number of academic societies including Internationale Vereinigung für Germanistik, Western Institute Society in Poznań, Polish Society of International Studies, Polish Society of European Studies, Polish Society of German Philologist, Polish Historical Society.

Professor Węc authored over 200 academic works published in Poland and abroad, including 18 monographs and syntheses on political systems in European Communities and in the European Union, European integration and integration in general, Polish-German relations, recent German history and the political system in Germany.
