Let us cordially invite for the lecture on Current and Future Cybersecurity Challenges for the EU Members delivered by Dr. Paul Timmers (Oxford University).

The lecture is organised in cooperation of BA in International Relations and Area Studies (IRAS) Programme, MA in International and Security Studies (ISAD) Programme and the JU’s Department of National Security.

The meeting will start on Oct. 28, 2019 (Monday) 3.30 p.m. in the Exhibition Room B (Sala Wystawa B), Auditorium Maximum UJ (Krupnicza Street 33).

The lecture is delivered in English and admission is free.

Paul Timmers is a visiting research fellow at Oxford University where he studies cybersecurity policy and digital transformation. Until 2017 he was Director at the European Commission for Digital Society, Trust & Cybersecurity, responsible for policy, legislation and innovation in cybersecurity, digital privacy, digital health & ageing, e‑government, and smart cities/mobility/energy and in that function also member of management board of ENISA, the EU’s network and information security agency. He was responsible for European cybersecurity legislation, including the Network and Information Security (NIS) Directive, the Regulation on electronic identity and trust services (eIDAS) and the ENISA Regulation. He was also co-responsible for significant parts of the EU’s research and innovation programmes in several fields.

He was member of the Cabinet of European Commissioner Erkki Liikanen responsible for the telecommunications and information society portfolios. He held various academic positions amongst others as visiting professor and is one of the most cited authors on (e-)business models.

Paul Timmers was manager in a large ICT company, he is co-founder of an ICT start-up, holds a PhD in Physics from Nijmegen University in the Netherlands, an MBA from Warwick University in the UK, was awarded an EU fellowship at UNC Chapel Hill and completed executive cybersecurity education at Harvard.
