Professor Emilian Kavalski – a keynote speaker at RELATE (UACES Research Network Launch Event)

Online What Can Relationality Be Good For In IR and European Studies? A RELATE Discussion Series - YouTube

We would like to inform that our Faculty Member, Professor Emilian Kavalski gave a talk entitled "What can relationality be good for in IR and European Studies?" as a keynote speaker at RELATE (European Studies in a Relational Universe) UACES Research Network Launch Event. The main goal of the event was to bring together social relational approaches – particularly practice theory, network theory and pragmatism - into the mainstream of European and EU studies.

Professor Kavalski believes that substantialist international relations suffer from a Columbus syndrome that keeps us from engaging with non-Western and post-Western approaches to international relations. Instead, he advocates for a "gimballed view of the world", where relations are placed before actors and which would allow us to apply post-Eurocentric and post-Anthropogenic relationalities.

But let him speak for himself, as he presents the subject in a much more engaging, passionate and at the same time very methodological and comprehensive way. You may see the video relation here: What Can Relationality Be Good For In IR and European Studies? A RELATE Discussion Series - YouTube
